Some consumers are not able to initially tolerate groups. They require individual sessions to learn adequate coping skills before they can benefit from the group format. We also provide individual and family therapy.
It can be challenging for siblings to know how to interact and cope with those who have a disability. Sibling groups provide support and psycho-education about having a sibling with ASD or a developmental disorder. Groups help siblings understand those with ASD or developmental delays so they understand that they may need to adjust their own behavior. Groups also help the sibling gain an understanding of the challenges their sibling faces and identify strategies to develop a healthy, productive relationship.
We help parents improve their relationships with their children by helping them learn effective parenting strategies free of power struggles, blame, or judgement. We assist parents with learning to express and identify needs and feelings in both themselves and their children. We help parents connect with their children through expressing empathy and understanding when needs are unmet. We also encourage parents learn to nurture a child’s self-esteem, autonomy, and emotional growth. We can assist parents that have challenging relationships with each other learn to effectively co-parent.
